Kia Orana & Welcome to the Umu Experience.

Kia Orana & welcome to the Umu Experience. We are a cultural tourism venue on the tropical island of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.

 What is the Umu Experience? We specialise in a unique Polynesian method of cooking food under the ground. We show you how this is done in our Umu show & provide you with a sumptuous buffet dinner. Don't miss the Umu Experience Dinner & Show.    

The Umu Experience provides the following options:

  1. Umu Experience Dinner & Show
    We operate on Monday & Thursday nights from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Bookings are essential.

  2. Cooking Classes:
    Our Umu Cooking Class & Cooking Class 101 are two optional day time activities that operate on selected days from 9.00am to 1.00pm

  3. Private Functions - we hire our venue for private functions.  

  4. Bookings are essential. Please contact us for details & to confirm your booking. 

Our Facility

We have a small & flat venue with easy access for wheelchairs through our main entrance with ramp or a side entrance & gate. Our dining area is our main space for our island night shows & directly opposite the dining area is our umu demonstration stations. Guests can sit on the outdoor seats closer to the stations but you can also view from your dining table. 

In the rear of the dining area is an outdoor dining area with BBQ tables looking out to our garden & a view of the mountains including “Te Manga” peak, the highest mountain in the Cook Islands at 652m above sea level. We have an indoor licensed bar & an outdoor bar (for functions) on site with kitchen & toilet facilities.
